Students with special needs will work on academic skills at an early elementary grade level. Small group centers, educational games and multisensory activities will be utilized to meet the individual needs of each student. The classroom will provide a balance of structured learning and a relaxing atmosphere. A small student-teacher ratio will allow for students to progress at their own pace while benefiting from peer interaction in a classroom setting. Skills presented will include letter and sound recognition, sight words, phonics, spelling, number recognition and counting, one to one correspondence, addition and subtraction, and introduction to telling time and counting money. Students will also participate in thematic studies, handwriting, art and music. Friendships and community will be built through work on strengthening social skills and learning to recognize and regulate emotions in an environment that is safe, loving and welcoming to children with unique learning needs.
