For our 2019-2020 School year the class options are as follows:

Pick your favorite classes in each category on the Elective Cooperative Enrollment form in the Parent Portal. Some of our class hours have "OTHER" class options available to choose in case your student prefers not to take a class in that category!  

 

Remember that each Elective student is $75 per semester (family max of $265) PLUS any class fees for classes chosen.

HEALTH & FITNESS

Just in time

Sports & Skills

Do you enjoy minute-to-win-it games? What about timed sports and skills? If so, this is the class for you!  Each class day will be filled with fun, friendly competition in wacky skills and different sports!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Comfortable Clothing & Footwear

BODY.SOUL.STRENGTH

Based on the wellness wheel, this class will explore how the different aspects of our lives effect our overall health.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Comfortable Clothing & Footwear

PUZZLES & PUZZLES

This class is an OTHER option in case your Cedar prefers not to engage in our Health & Fitness classes. With this class, they won't miss out on any fun as they are challenged with puzzles, puzzles, and more puzzles!

 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Parents may be asked to bring puzzles to class on occasion.

THE ARTS

SNAP HAPPY! 

MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY

Students will learn how to use their mobile devices to take better quality pictures. This class will get them to think more about the light, the colors, the lines, the placement of your subject. Focusing more on those fundamentals will do beautiful things for their mobile photography.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Each student will be required to bring a phone, ipod, tablet, or some way to take mobile pictures.

FLIP YOUR SCRIPT : LETTERING

FAUX CALLIGRAPHY

No fancy pens required! It can be done with any tool, like paint pens and chalk, and involves drawing outlines of the letters.

BRUSH LETTERING

The flexibility of brush pens (or paint brushes) are what make this type of lettering.

PENMANSHIP

We may also throw in a little cursive action to build better penmanship all around!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • A list of necessary pens and paper will be provided before the semester begins.

MUSIC

BALLROOM & SWING DANCE

We will again have professional instructors at elective day, teaching our students classical dances!  These instructors are also so great to offer the students more practice options outside of class days, if desired.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes with non-marking soles

Music around the world

This class will go on a musical journey around the world, learning about different countries, cultures, musical styles, and instruments along the way. 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Provided

BOOK CLUB

This class is an OTHER option in case your Cedar prefers not to engage in our Music classes. There will be a list of books covered in each semester. Class time will be reserved for fun discussion, games, and special activities related to each book!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Parents will need to purchase each book for their student and make sure their student completes the reading assignment for each class. 

FOREIGN STUDIES

Root Languages & Cultures

Students will study different ancient civilizations and their languages, tracing back to missionaries and bible stories and the heroes they tell us about.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Provided

FRENCH & FABULOUS

Parlez-vous français? Non? Join this class and learn about the French Culture and basics of the language.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Provided

FUN GAMES

This class is an OTHER option in case your Cedar prefers not to engage in our Foreign Studies classes. With this class, they won't miss out on any fun as they are challenged with many different fun games!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Parents may be asked to bring games to class on occasion.

LIFE SKILLS

JA FINANCE PARK

This is a program dedicated to educating middle and high school students in the basics of financial literacy: budgeting, investing, managing risk - all while reinforcing the value of education and how it affects one's future.

Income

Students recognize the fundamental role of income in managing their personal finances and the factors that the decisions they make about education and career will have an impact on their potential income and quality of life.

Savings, Investing and Risk Management

Students explore why saving money is critical, and they compare investments as a part of their overall financial planning.  They examine risk and how insurance may help protect savings.  They also examine risk and how insurance may help mitigate certain expenses

Credit and Debit

Students compare financial institutions and their services.  They weigh the advantages and disadvantages of debit and credit.  Students will explore the role of credit scores and credit reporting on personal finances.

Budget

Students discover the importance of spending money wisely and recognize a budget as a valuable tool.

The Simulation Debriefing

Students experience the JA Finance Park simulation, where they apply classroom learning by creating a family budget based on a hypothetical life situation.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Most materials are provided

  • There will be a $25 cost for the JA Finance Park Field Trip in the Spring.  Each student attending will be required to pay $25 upon entry to the JA Finance Park Field Trip.

  • Parent participation on the JA Finance Park Field Trip is also required.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Students will learn about common household items and how they operate and even how to make some small repairs.

NOT HAPPY WITH A CLASS CHOICE?

You can choose one of the below options to volunteer during any class hour. Volunteer choices are subject to approval!

LITTLE ROOTS Helping Hand

Instead of taking a class, we'd love to have your help for one class hour in our Saplings (3 years old), Sprouts (4 years old), or Shrubs (5 years old) classes!  Just list Little Roots Helping Hand in the class hour choice on your enrollment form!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • None

Willow friend

Instead of taking a class, we'd love for you to be a Willow Friend!  Our Willows are our special needs students and sometimes they just need a little help in PE class or a friend to hang out with at lunch.  Just list Willow Friend in the class hour choice on your enrollment form!

  • None
